One of the commitments of CANACEM, through the work of its corporate partners, is to construct a better future for people living in poverty, supporting different actions. The Corporate Social Responsibility is a way of working, which reflects the commitment with Mexico, its communities, and its environment.

For the firms which belong to CANACEM, it is fundamental to contribute to the development of Mexico, increasing Mexican communities’ standard of living and helping them to improve their environment in order to achieve a better way of living.

Some of the activities done by the corporate partners to improve development are:

  • To help families in the constructions of their dwellings.
  • To strengthen education.
  • To support small and medium enterprises.
  • To promote a work culture based on safety and hygiene.
  • To encourage community development.

For the Cement Industry in Mexico, the safety of their workers has always been a priority, therefore safety measures, to avoid work incidents have been implemented. Our processes require constant investments to implement technological innovations which contribute to the internal safety for our plants and for the communities nearby.

Since 1990, Mexican Cement Industries have considerably lowered their accident indexes and work risks, obtaining the recognition as one of the sectors which has achieved more positive results in workers’ safety.

In 1994, the Mexican Institute for Social Service and the National Chamber of Cement established the Work Safety and Hygiene National Prize, in order to recognize the effort of the enterprises, workers and researchers whose ideas and innovations on Work Risk Prevention, Work Risk Research, and Practical Solutions Implementation on Safety and Hygiene have been successful.

From 2006 on, the Ministry of Work and Social Prevision takes part of the Organizing Committee, creating a new modality for the prize which include upper high school and college students who bring proposals in the Work Safety and Hygiene area, developed in their academic environment. During 2006, the 24th Round Table on Safety and Occupational Health took place, and the lowest accident index in the history of the sector was certified.
