Types of cement classification is according to regulation NMX-C-414-ONNCCE-1999, which establishes the following:
According to its composition, types of cement could be:
TYPE
DENOMINATION
CPO
Ordinary Portland Cement
OCP
Ordinary Portland Cement
PPC
Pozzolana Portland Cement
PBFSC
Portland Blast Furnace Slag Cement
CPC
Compound Portland Cement
PCSF
Portland Cement with Silica Fume
BFSC
Blast Furnace Slag Cement
According to its special characteristics, the type of cement could be:
NOMENCLATURE
SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF CEMENTS
SR
Sulfate resistant
LAR
Low alkali-reactivity aggregate
LHH
Low Hydration Heat
W
White
According to its resistance, cements could:
Normal resistance of a cement is the minimum mechanical resistance to compression within 28 days and it is expressed as 20, 30 or 40 Newtons per square millimeter (N/mm2)
In a cement bag, cement classification will be integrated as follows:
Composition + Resistance + Special characteristic
Example 1: Cement OPC 40 R
This classification indicates that it is an Ordinary Portland Cement with high initial resistance.
Cement PBFSC 30 SR
This classification indicates that it is a cement with slag addition, with a normal resistance and sulfate resistance.
Cement PPC 30 LAR / LHH
This classification indicates that it is a Pozzolana Portland Cement with normal resistance, low alkali reactivity aggregate and low hydration heat.
